Highville Charter School in Hamden, Connecticut needed a new website and approached Spider Creations to implement a new design that would allow their staff to update site content and quickly get messages out to parents and students using social media. They wanted a completely unique design, and after determining business requirements and laying out wireframes for each page template, Spider Creations contracted with eWebscapes to come up with a custom WordPress template.

Spider Creations also took the lead to implement a new email and calendaring system for the Highville staff that includes more than 40 teachers and administrators. Each staff member now has their own highvillecharter.com email address, and the complete solution is provided for free by Google Apps for Education.

Project Type: Project Management & Implementation
Client: Highville Charter School
Release Date:  2011
Keywords: Web Design, WordPress, Custom Theme

The site includes a prominent Twitter feed right on the home page to get quick messages to parents and students about school closings. When the Tweet is posted, the website is updated within about 30 seconds. The school will also be taking advantage of Facebook and YouTube in the future to round-out their social media presence.

Along with pages and news posts, eWebscapes and Spider Creations included a custom post type feature that will allow the staff and teachers to post curriculum for each class, displayed in a unique way highlighting details and meta-data about the specific class.
